This workshop is designed to inform clinicians about the many psychologically-pertinent issues related to legalized marijuana usage, including:
- What information must be provided to ensure clients are receiving quality information from a harm reduction, empirically validated position?
- How do we avoid the dichotomy of “it’s harmless” vs “it’s harmful and a gateway drug” that features in social conversations on marijuana?
- What do we, as treating clinicians, need to better understand and continually assess concerning clients’ choices concerning the use of marijuana?
- What is our role and obligation concerning due diligence and ethics?
- What concerns are particularly pertinent to the young (developing) brain?
- How might we work with clients to ensure open communication and strong therapeutic alliance while still providing necessary and accurate information?
These questions and more will be addressed in the morning overview, followed by detailed Q & A sessions in the afternoon.
