This training is suitable for: New supervisors, or those who hope to take over a supervisory position in the future. It is also suitable for experienced supervisors who would like to fine-tune their supervisory abilities in Health & Human Services.

Description: A challenge for stellar performers who are promoted to be supervisors in that while they are on a learning curve for new supervisory skills, they must concurrently build their personal credibility and influence with staff, peers and their managers. This workshop is designed to take participants through the how-to and strategies that can be used to meet the common credibility and influence challenges for new supervisors. Participants will learn how to establish their credibility and authority in the role in a respectful and confident way while building new supervisory relationships and collaboration capacity with your team. Ms. Langford will discuss increasing political acuity and communication skills for managing up and navigating priorities and organizational change. Strategies will be provided on managing conflicts in the role of new Supervisor.

Learning Objectives:

  • Establish your credibility and authority in the role in a respectful and confident way.
  • Establish new supervisory relationships or repair existing ones (if you're supervising former team members), to ensure maximum influence and trust with the team on a go forward basis.
  • Build your capacity for collaboration with peers while also acting in the best interests of both your team and the organization.
  • Increase our political acuity and communication skills for managing up and navigating priorities and organizational changes.
  • Build a support system and mentoring in your new role.
  • What to do if you're the person in the conflict.
  • Real strategies for any current conflicts that you may be addressing
