Caring for Caregivers Workshop is Coming to Sudbury! We are pleased to announce our 2-day Caring for Caregivers workshop is taking place in Sudbury June 22 & 23, 2019. This CBT-p informed workshop provides practical tools aimed to reduce feelings of anxiety and depression in caregivers, build greater resiliency, and increase the caregiver’s capacity to support the recovery journey of the person they care for. This workshop will provide caregivers with basic and easy to apply CBT-p informed techniques they can use to effectively support their family members living with schizophrenia and psychosis. Caregivers can expect to leave feeling empowered, more optimistic about their relationship with their loved one, and better equipped to communicate productively. The workshop will be facilitated by: Dr. Nicola Wright, Phd, C.Psych, is a clinical psychologist on The Schizophrenia Program of the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group (ROHCG), Canada. Dr. Wright engages in individual and group cognitive behavioral therapy for people who experience psychosis (CBTP), and is a clinical professor with the school of psychology at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Wright is also founding member of the Canadian Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and an Insight trained and certified CBT-p facilitator. Lisa Murata, RN, BScN, MEd, is the Recovery Day Program Nurse in the Integrated Recovery/ Schizophrenia Program at the Royal and a Clinical Nurse Educator. She is also the Clinical Lead for Smoking Cessation. She has Beck Institute CBT education and supervision. Lisa is an RNAO Best Practice Champion, a certified Solution-Focused Therapist and a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. She sees patients individually and in groups, educates staff, supervises students and conducts research. Lisa’s research interests include smoking cessation, substance use group interventions and healthy lifestyle promotion for people with psychotic illnesses, antipsychotic medication injections, hearing voices simulation and the experience of caregivers of persons with schizophrenia. Lisa is an academic consultant with the University of Ottawa School of Nursing. She has authored several articles and presented at conferences and workshops in Canada and abroad. She champions a person-centred, strengths based approach to recovery. Sophie Hwang, M.S.W., R.S.W, is the Support Services Manager at SSO. She provides support and services to individuals and family members who are impacted by schizophrenia. She also developed and delivers SSO’s Recovery in Action Cognitive Behavioural Therapy group for individuals living with psychosis. She received CBT training from the University of Toronto and the Beck Institute. A registered social worker, Sophie has an MSW from York University and an MEd in counselling psychology and PhD in Education from the University of Toronto.
