Please note: You must complete all four modules within a year to obtain the certificate. Each of the modules may be taken on their own as a stand-alone training.

Description:
This certificate program provides professionals the opportunity to examine the multi-faceted role of the supervisor. Participants will be able to strengthen their leadership proficiency and develop the practical skills needed to be an effective supervisor/leader in health and human services.

Four virtual training days (modules) make up this certificate program. Each module addresses a different area of successful supervisory skills building.

Individual modules:

• Essential skills for the new supervisor: Explore the basics of supervision, such as how to set clear expectations, delegate, provide feedback and coach staff members - July 9
• Leadership and motivation: Examine leadership tools that motivate staff members to achieve peak performance and embrace change - July 12
• Holding difficult conversations: Understand how to prepare for and conduct any difficult conversation - July 16
• Cultivating your credibility and influence: Learn how to engage people in a way that gains their trust and respect, as well as how to create conditions for a beneficial and positive working relationship with others - July 18

Facilitator Bio:
Susan Geary, PhD has over 20 years of experience as a trainer, coach, consultant, and corporate education manager. She has developed and facilitated workshops for managers, supervisors and employees in management, communication, influence, change management, supervision, team building and coaching skills. Susan is passionate about adult learning and believes in creating a learning environment that is safe, energizing, focused on learning, practical, and relevant to the job. She is a dynamic presenter and her workshops are enthusiastically reviewed time and time again. Her mission is to help managers and employees develop the necessary skills and knowledge to perform optimally within organizations. Her clients include many organizations in the non-profit sector as well as major national and international organizations and the provincial and federal government. She has a PhD in adult education and is the co-author of the book Colour Savvy: Helping you Achieve Success in Your Work Life (2010) and Your Personality Unlocked: Living Life to Its Fullest (2021).

Marion Langford, M.Ed. is an experienced and certified coach, facilitator, and organizational change specialist with over 25 years experience. Marion specializes in the practical how-to of difficult and transformational conversational methods and questions. Her focus is on supporting leaders in the creation of positive change in their relationships with staff, community partners, and funders, while operating from a deeply empathic set of values, skills, and premises. She specializes in innovative leadership development, team and group dynamics, workplace communications, mind/body integration, and career transitions and decisions.
