Natalie Zlodre is currently the director of Community Resources and Initiatives, a trauma-informed consulting firm located in Toronto. Her professional focus is in the areas of acute trauma, developmental/complex trauma and the impact of trauma on professionals and on mental health services. Natalie provides clinical consultation and supervision to mental health professionals and organizations. Her theoretical framework is trauma-informed and strength-based. Natalie is an experienced training facilitator and has provided hundreds of presentations nationally and internationally. She is known for her direct and lively style and her ability to translate complex theories about traumatic responses into relevant practices for post-traumatic growth in vulnerable populations.

Certificate Program Description: In this 6-day certificate program, participants will be given the most current information on the biopsychosocial phenomenon of trauma, and training in how to assess, and respond ethically, and appropriately to clients, given the parameters of the workplace. Participants will also examine how workers and organizations are affected by an respond to working with traumatized individuals and develop trauma-informed approaches to work that enhance personal and professional resilience.

The trauma issues experienced by adult clients/consumers may include: early childhood trauma, violent crime, sexual assault, domestic violence, work related trauma, motor vehicle accidents, medical trauma and on-going pervasive developmental arrests. 

Learning Objectives: 

  • Identify:  You will learn to identify and understand the range of reactions traumatized individuals by experience such as:
    • Acute PTSD, Grief/Bereavement Reactions, Developmental Trauma, chronic frustration and misery, dissociative reactions and anxious and disorganized attachment patterns
  • Assess:  You will learn key questions to ask clients in acute and complex situations to assess and guide interventions
  • Intervene: You will learn strategies that will assist clients in adaptive coping and overcoming the debilitating effects of:
    • Hypo-hyperarousal
    • Affect dysregulation, sleep dysregulation, intrusive imagery
    • Flashbacks and nightmare management, guilt, shame, blame, client paralysis and therapeutic impasses

The objective with clients who have experienced a single incident trauma is to help clients recover to base-line functioning by using psycho-education and symptom management strategies. 

The object with clients, who have experienced complex/developmental trauma, is to mitigate layers of human suffering that has manifested in entrenched rigid maladaptive patterns.  Our work with clients is to bring clarity to the origin, presence and manifestations of these patterns and to develop a systematic process for changing the core belief system/schema that drives these patterns.
