Creative Techniques for Child-Focused Family Therapy

This training is suitable for: Mental health professionals, clinicians, psychotherapists, counsellors, psychologists and social workers.
Description: The use of creative techniques in child-focused family therapy sessions provides a medium for all members to participate and promotes positive family interaction. This workshop will outline innovative techniques to engage, assess and treat families. Interventions to strengthen parenting skills will also be described and demonstrated. The facilitator will present the key ingredients for an effective termination and integrate techniques into ending sessions with families.
Participants will learn to:
- describe the rationale for using play-based techniques in family therapy, and implement a variety of creative interventions
- identify the areas to observe when assessing families and utilize helpful tools for assessing families
- implement strategies to strengthen parenting skills
- describe the key ingredients for an effective termination and integrate techniques into ending sessions with families
This is workshop Learning Module 4 of the Certificate in Essential Skills for Assessing and Treating Children and Families. This module may be taken separately from the certificate program as a stand-alone workshop.
Meet the Facilitator:
Liana Lowenstein, MSW., RSW., CPT-S.
Liana Lowenstein is a Registered clinical Social Worker, Certified Play Therapist-supervisor, and Certified TF-CBT Therapist who has been working with children and their families since 1988. she presents training across North America and abroad. Recent speaking engagements include South Africa, Israel, England and Australia. She provides clinical supervision to mental health practitioners, runs a play-therapy internship program, and consults to several mental health agencies. She has authored numerous best-selling books including: Paper Dolls and Paper Airplanes: therapeutic Exercises for Sexually Traumatized; Creative Interventions for Children of Divorce; Creative Interventions for Bereaved Children; Cory Helps Kids Cope with Sexual Abuse; and Creative CBT Interventions for Children with Anxiety. Liana is winner of the Monica Hebert award for outstanding contribution and dedication to children psychotheapy and play therapy in Canada
