The growing risk of the COVID-19 virus is associated with a rise in discrimination and stigma. Several groups are experiencing disparities in regards to access to privileges which include affordable healthcare, safe and adequate housing, technology, food security and the ability to effectively social distance.
Part 1 of this discussion on health inequity, discrimination, xenophobia and allyship, will examine how an effective response to COVID-19 must consider barriers to access and equity, generally; and how these inequities impact health outcomes, for various communities. Part 2 will follow on Thursday, July 30, 2020.
Discussion topics for part 1 will include: - Communities vulnerable to the virus as a result of historic and contemporary inequities;
- Disparities in access to care;
- COVID-19 research implications and necessity of special efforts and outreach strategies for high risk groups
