Drug Use and Harm Reduction During COVID-19

Co-hosted by EENet/PSSP and the Ontario Harm Reduction Network

Impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on people who use drugs (PWUD) include closing or limiting hours of capacity of various services (including drop-ins, safe consumption sites), scarcity and rising prices of drugs, and disconnection from many other supports. This new public health crisis intersects with the now entrenched overdose crisis.

Adaptations to previous practices for supporting people who use drugs may include altering of consumption and treatment services and other support services, adapting harm reduction outreach and supply distribution, and supporting people when using in isolation.

This webinar will highlight key issues in harm reduction during the COVID-19 outbreak and discuss changes that harm reduction programs have made during this time. Drug Culture Experts will talk about the realities of using drugs in the current context, and representatives from harm reduction programs in Ontario will highlight recent practice innovations.

Presenters will include representatives from HIV/AIDS Regional Services Kingston, Positive Living Niagara, and the AIDS Network Hamilton.
