On August 5, 2021, EHN Canada is proud to host a panel discussion for Inclusion and Diversity: Understanding Mental Health and Substance Abuse in Indigenous Communities. With recent news regarding residential schools, it has opened old wounds or revealed entirely new ones, as Indigenous communities continue to struggle with the effects of generational trauma and longstanding barriers to resources. It has made us consider our role in the recovery process, including in mental health and addiction. As an organization that respectfully acknowledges the traditional territories we occupy, and also cares for those who are of Indigenous background, we are committed to sharing our knowledge and recognition of providing culturally competent treatment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Recognizing that Indigenous communities experience a heightened level of both mental health and substance abuse issues
  • Understanding the necessity for inclusive and diverse mental health and addictions treatment
  • What is involved in developing inclusive and diverse programming
  • How and where to seek help

Date: August 5, 2021 - 12pm EST, 9am PST

Duration: 45 minutes + 15 minutes Q&A discussion

Cost: COMPLIMENTARY
