Description: Understanding the connection between individuals struggling with eating disorders and their attachment category is paramount in providing effective treatment. Research shows that there is a correlation between eating disorders and insecure attachment patterns.

In this comprehensive training, clinicians will learn about attachment theory and will be equipped to apply it in their practice. We will explore how to use this theory specifically in the treatment of eating disorders.

The facilitator will use interactive discussions and case studies to enhance understanding and application of the key concepts.

Learning objectives:

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how attachment styles influence eating disorders. Enabling them to identify and assess various attachment patterns in clients. They will acquire practical tools to implement attachment-informed therapeutic interventions, fostering emotional regulation and healthier interpersonal relationships. This approach empowers professionals to develop personalized treatment plans that address both the psychological and relational aspects of eating disorders, leading to more effective and compassionate care.

Facilitator Bio:
Devra Igra, MSW, RSW, is a trained social worker registered and in good standing with the college. Devra has been practicing in private practice for nearly a decade, specializing in eating disorders, trauma and attachment. 
 


Continuing Education (CE) information: 6 CE hours

SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health Learning Institute is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to offer continuing education (CE) hours. The number of eligible CE hours are outlined within each program. SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health Learning Institute maintains responsibility for the programs.

Other licensing boards and professional organizations will grant continuing education credits for attendance at their own discretion; participants will need to submit the course outline and Certificate of Participation for their consideration.
