Event type: Single day (a day or less)

Research in e-mental health is growing rapidly (Lal & Adair, 2014; Mental Health Commission of Canada, 2014, 2017), likely faster than its uptake in clinical settings. In light of this, there is a need for specific knowledge synthesis activities that can provide clear recommendations on how a specific technology can be effectively adopted and integrated into existing youth mental health services. Gaming my way to recovery is a Frayme sponsored research project that aims to answer this need by exploring how video game technology and interventions can be integrated into the current evolution of youth mental health services.

This webinar will discuss how to overcome the current research-practice gap in video game-based interventions through knowledge synthesis by understanding where, when, how, and for what video game technologies can best be implemented into integrated youth services for mental health and substance use, and in doing so support their transformation.

There will be time at the end of the webinar for an interactive Q&A with the presenters.

This webinar will allow participants to:

1. Access the existing evidence and gaps on the use of digital game interventions within the context of mental health services for youth.
2. Identify evidence-based digital game interventions that can support the prevention and treatment of different mental health conditions in youth.
3. Identify steps and mechanisms to engage youth in knowledge synthesis projects.
4. Discover how playing video games, and having fun, can help young people gain new skills, support their mental well-being and overcome the stigma of mental illness.

Who should attend: All stakeholders involved in child and youth mental health, including:
• Managers, directors, and program leads of youth services
• Service providers
• Policy makers
• Researchers
• Youth advocates
• Family advocates
