Knowing how to administer naloxone can save lives.
We are offering free opioid overdose virtual reality simulation training, using virtual reality headsets. The goal is to administer the medication to someone who is unconscious from an opioid overdose in time to revive them.
The training walks learners through each step, including how to support the person after they wake up. Before entering into the headsets we will review together the signs of an opioid overdose, and steps to respond.
What is unique about this training?
- Trial, error & feedback: Practise giving naloxone, try different options, get feedback and try again.
- Realistic scenarios: Engage with an avatar in a scenario that reflects real-life experiences. The procedure for responding to an overdose reflects the most recent evidence and input from clinical experts.
- Co-created and trauma-informed: Developed with people who use substances or have experience with opioid overdose, the scenarios emphasize responding in a way that is safe, respectful and non-judgmental.
