Frayme and Starlings Community have partnered for National Addictions Awareness Week to offer a free workshop on substance use and addiction that will be taking place on November 23rd, 2021 at 6:00PM - 8:00PM EST.

In Canada, approximately 1 out of 6 children experience a parent’s substance use disorder, which is compounded by society’s stigma. In addition, many parents do not have access to supports that would enable their healing and which could prevent the cycle of stress in families. This workshop explores the impact of societal and structural stigma on multiple generations, while inviting participants to consider their role in a families healing.

Participants in this workshop will:

  • Increase their understanding of parental addiction, the impact it has on children, and the ways societal stigma impacts these families.
  • Explore how ones own biases and assumptions might impact current policies and practices.
  • Develop a greater understanding of adverse childhood experiences as they relate to cycles of stress and trauma in families.
  • Learn how to incorporate a relational view of health and healing to addiction prevention through trauma-informed, healing-centred care to help be active participants in a family's healing process.
