Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) for depression, relationships and health

Presented by SickKids CCMH Learning Institute

Live webinar March 28 and 29, 2022 | 9 a.m. to noon EST
Paula Ravitz, MD, FRCPC and Edward McAnanama, PhD

This webinar will provide a foundational training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), an evidence-supported, brief (8-16 session) structured transdiagnostic treatment recommended by the World Health Organization, the Canadian Mood and Anxiety Treatment Guidelines and other national consensus guideline panels based on decades of research, especially as a depression treatment for diverse patient populations across the lifespan. Global mental health trials demonstrate its efficacy and effectiveness with underserved, culturally diverse clinical populations, in primary care and obstetrics, schools, prisons, inpatient settings, with veterans, and for individuals suffering with PTSD and histories of interpersonal violence or childhood sexual abuse.

IPT focuses on the centrality of relationships in illness, recovery, and resilience for mental health, and ways to cope with stressful life events of loss, change, conflicts, and loneliness that are associated with symptom onset or worsening. Fostering reciprocal social connections with supportive others, and working through triggering interpersonal experiences of grief, social role transitions, and relational disputes, IPT’s affect-focused therapeutic guidelines aid patients to improve communication and problem-solving in relationships.

This training on IPT for depression is comprised of the following:

  • Two half days of live, virtual training with clinical demonstrations and skills practicing
  • Five modules of self-directed case-based interactive online learning with videotaped captioned demonstrations that present an overview of the research, theoretical foundations and applied clinical guidelines of interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT)

Participants of this webinar will receive a copy of Dr. Paula Ravitz's book "Psychotherapy Essentials To-Go: Interpersonal Therapy for Depression" book and DVD with practice reminder card delivered to their home/work!*

Registration fees: $290. Student and group rates are available.
