Course Description

In this workshop, participant's will:

  • Examine Substance Use: Learn terminology, reasons for use/non-use, effects/impacts of substances and youth consumption trends.
  • Identify Risks: Recognize signs of harmful/problematic use, associated risks.
  • Develop Strategies: Apply strategies to lower the harms associated with substance use.
  • Initiate Open Conversations: Learn how to start and maintain constructive dialogues with youth.
  • Access Resources: Explore educational materials, videos, and the Parent Support Hub.

Facilitator Biography

Steve Keller

Steve Keller is the program developer and national speaker for Drug Free Kids Canada, overseeing the development of DFK's community engagement and educational awareness workshops across Canada. Steve has worked in the field of addiction and mental health since 2015 as a speaker, content creator and analyst. Steve is a graduate of Trent University's School of Education, and has spoken on subject matter related to gambling, cannabis, alcohol, nicotine, opioids and other risky behaviours for nearly a decade both in Ontario and nationally.
