Participants will understand the significant physiological, emotional and cognitive components of the trauma response and how they contribute to the development and maintenance of trauma symptoms and PTSD. Dr. Lee will present the rationale for and mechanisms underlying exposure-based therapy in treating PTSD symptoms and how trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy including prolonged exposure and cognitive restructuring can address these underlying processes to improve PTSD symptoms and functioning. The CBT skills introduced in this workshop will ultimately help clients to challenge unhelpful thinking styles, particularly with common themes after trauma including loss of control, powerlessness, and helplessness.
