Event type: Multi-day (+2 days)

You are invited to the annual Mental Health and Addictions Education Day for Service Providers on May 7th during CMHA’s Mental Health Week!

Join us for a day of learning, networking, and re-energizing!

 May 7, 2019

8:30am-4:30pm

Nipissing University, Robert J. Surtees Athletics Centre

Fee: $25

Register here by April 30, 2019.

This event is co-organized by Canadian Mental Health Association - Nipissing Regional Branch, NU Listens (Nipissing University), North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, North Bay Regional Health Centre, and Nipissing Mental Health Housing and Support Services. The event is sponsored by Bell Let's Talk.

CMHA Nipissing’s daisy concept for mental health promotion is used as a way to frame the day. Through presentations and discussion we will explore strengths, supports, and challenges that impact wellness at the individual, community, and broader societal levels. With this event, we hope to strike a balance between covering emerging issues and hot topics and leaving attendees feeling inspired.

There will be a range of presentations from community members and organizations on topics such as:

  • health equity
  • self-help resources
  • human trafficking
  • supports within the justice system
  • harm reduction
  • recovery from perspectives with lived experience
  • compassion fatigue prevention

Keynote speaker, Michelle Furgiuele is a Canadian survivor, speaker, and consultant with Timea’s Cause Inc. Michelle was trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation by Canadian sex traffickers. Today, Michelle offers awareness-raising to communities and will leave you feeling inspired by her healing journey and current work.

Speakers, Matt Thorpe and Lise Leblanc of M. Thorpe and Associates Inc., will help us wrap up the day by sharing their extraordinary stories of how they redefined and recommitted to using their experiences to shift the world toward wellness one conversation at a time.

A full agenda will be shared with registrants closer to the event.
