This course prepares health care professionals to apply the evidenced based method of motivational interviewing (MI) for promoting growth and change in their practice. The course discusses the uses of MI, how it works and why health care professionals would want to use it. The course is based on the principles detailed in Motivational Interviewing: Helping People Change and Grow, 4th edition (2023), by William R. Miller and Stephen Rollnick.

Format and key course elements
- Virtual and faculty led
- You will attend 16 live web-based sessions (1 hour each)
- Course sessions are typically scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday 4:00-6:00 pm ET
- Course sessions are structured with assigned readings prior to each session, interactive presentations with Q & A, simulation-based learning, cased-based learning and discussions
- The course is limited to a small group of 10 participants per session to deliver more customized and focused training
- Support from a course coordinator and facilitator is provided throughout the course
