Overview


This course prepares physicians, specialist physicians and psychiatrists to integrate evidence-based MI into their practice and use MI strategies throughout a patient’s process of change. The course is based on the principles detailed in Motivational Interviewing: Helping People Change and Grow, 4th edition (2023), by William R. Miller and Stephen Rollnick

Core features:

  • Simulation-based learning: Each participant will conduct two live simulated patient (SP) consultation sessions. An experienced MI coach will provide real-time feedback and coaching
  • Live, online, interactive group learning labs
  • Authentic patient-care scenarios form the basis of contextual learning.

Course format:

  • Online, Synchronous (live, in real-time,) Faculty-Led
  • Course session are hosted on WebEx: Participants see, hear and speak with faculty and other course participants in real time

Accreditation:

  • College of Family Physicians of Canada Mainpro+ (1 credit/hour) Group Learning: up to 15.0 credits
  • Royal College Maintenance of Certification Section up to 1: 5.0 hours
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Section 3: Simulation Based: up to 10.0 hours 
  • American Medical Association Category 1: up to 15.0 credits
  • European Union for Medical Specialists UEMS-EACCME®: up to 15.0 credits
