Talking with your child about substance use isn't always easy — but it's one of the most important things you can do. Whether you're parenting a preteen, raising a teenager, or supporting a young adult, knowing where to start, what to say, and how to keep the door open makes all the difference.
In this webinar, we'll walk you through what to consider when approaching these conversations at every age and stage. You'll leave with tangible, practical tools to help you connect with the young people in your life in a way that feels natural, non-judgmental, and - most importantly, effective. The presentation draws on Substance’s research with Canadian parents and teens and focuses on encouraging open, non-judgmental dialogue around substance use. Together, we will examine:
- What substance use topics matter most to parents and teens
- How to approach difficult conversations in an open, non-judgmental way
- Common barriers that can make it harder for young people and adults to communicate
- Practical strategies for creating conversations that encourage trust, safety and connection
- Resources and supports available to help youth and the adults who care for them
Because the goal isn't a perfect conversation. It's an honest one.
