Event type: Single day (a day or less)

The Ontario Government requires health care organizations to collect and report financial and statistical data from daily operations in accordance with provincial standards, known as the Ontario Healthcare Reporting Standards (OHRS).

This intensive three-day program provides an overview and standardized interpretation of OHRS and demonstrates the importance of OHRS for decision-making and its implications for hospital funding. In addition, participants will learn strategies for appropriately reporting OHRS data to ensure data quality and integrity.

This program is designed for individuals responsible for decision support, financial planning and reporting in a hospital setting. Join this program to learn about:

  • How to appropriately interpret and implement the standards
  • Key concepts and business rules of OHRS and why they are important
  • Outputs from OHRS reporting – verification reports, the Ontario Costing Distribution Model (OCDM), Healthcare Indicator Tool (HIT)
  • Challenges of inappropriately reporting data, the implications of poor data quality on hospital decision-making, and solutions to address the challenges
  • How OHRS data is linked to other health care applications

Registration Fee: $1400. Click here for more information and to register.

This is a hands-on three-day program. Each day will focus on a different aspect of OHRS and will run approximately from 8:45 am to 4:00 pm each day. Participants are required to bring a laptop in order to complete course work throughout the day.

Day 1: The Foundation: The first day of the program will focus on an overview of OHRS basics, a review of the key concepts and business rules along with OHRS documentation and material.

Day 2: Application: Following a first day of foundational concepts, the second day will take a deep dive into the application of the Ontario healthcare reporting standards. We will review trial balance submissions, editing rules and learn the value of trial balance verification reports.

Day 3: Interpretation: The final day focuses on making sense of the OHRS data and the Ontario Cost Distribution Methodology (OCDM). We will explore how OHRS data is used within the health care system including hospital indicator tools, case costing, funding etc. and examine the importance of data quality while reviewing data quality reports.
