A black man named D’Andre Campbell, a 26-year-old from Brampton, Ontario was shot and killed on April 26, 2020 by Peel police after he called 911 to ask for help because he had a schizophrenic episode. This incident is one of hundreds across North America which has sparked a worldwide anti-racism movement after the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police, which was videotaped and went viral across the world on social media platforms and news outlets.
As a result, this anti-racism movement has challenged all people to become more self-aware of their own bias, prejudice and stereotypes at home and in their workplace. Canadian governments at all levels, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has publicly declared anti-racism must be made part of the fabric of Canadian Culture.
This workshop will give a personal message of life experiences of how racism affects mental health along with an introduction to anti-racism and how it impacts mental health.
Presenters: Brooke Chambers and Kim Borden Penney are seasoned facilitators that have delivered anti-oppressive, anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion trainings and workshops to senior management and staff.
This webinar is hosted by the Ontario Peer Development Initiative.
