Our Presenters:

 

Angela Martin, Patient Advocate

Angela Martin is a Patient Advocate with the Ministry of Health - Psychiatric Patient Advocate Office - Emergency Health Services Division. Angela is a passionate professional Advocate with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field promoting and protecting the legal, civil, and human rights of clients at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Through her provision of individual and systemic advocacy and public education, clients are receiving better mental health outcomes, are making informed decisions, and able to maintain responsibility for their own wellness and recovery. Angela is a certified Mental Health First Aid Facilitator in good standing with the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Angela sees advocacy as a process that heightens accountability and as such, works diligently to ensure care providers are responsive to the needs, concerns, and voices of the clients they serve.

 

Pat Brar, Rights Adviser

Pat Brar is a Rights Adviser with the Ministry of Health - Psychiatric Patient Advocate Office - Emergency Health Services Division. Pat has been providing clients with support and information about their Rights under the Mental Health Act for over 15 years. Over this time, Pat has worked in Most GTA hospitals and has been at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) since 2022. As a Rights adviser Pat acts on the direction of clients and assists clients to exercise their rights as a patient in the Mental health system. Pat works to ensure mental health client rights are upheld, clients are making informed decisions, and can maintain responsibility for their own wellness and recovery. Pat has spent over 20 Years working with clients from vulnerable sectors including Addictions, Domestic Abuse, Homelessness and Mental Health. She makes sure services to clients are provided with empathy and compassion recognizing rights advice is an integral part of the Mental Health Act that ensures accountability and transparency.
