Speaker Biographies:

Monica

Monica spent 25 years with a man who lived with bipolar disorder, helping him find a path through his highs and lows until his recent passing. She also guided her daughters through bouts of depression, anxiety, eating disorders and addiction, and feels the worst is behind them. She speaks about resilience, self-care, and how unconditional love (and pets!) can keep a family together and moving forward against all odds.

Carrie

Carrie has had her own experiences with mental health, which motivated her to enroll in the Master of social work program at the University of Toronto. Carrie is also a peer support volunteer at Hope and Me Mood Disorders Association of Ontario.

Jenny

Jenny earned her BSc from the University of Toronto and was a senior technical analyst in the IT field for over 20 years. She was injured on the job by sexual harassment and retaliation. Despite her severe injury, she fought and succeeded in many advocacy battles for 12 years. But her case has not been heard yet.

Merle

Merle is a retired public servant and freelance writer. She has volunteered with Hope and Me for four years in various capacities including on the TIPs warmline, co-facilitating the Hope and Me support group for people with anxiety and depression, and giving presentations to patients at Humber River Hospital.
