This 90-minute webinar offers a safe and welcoming space to connect with others and hear inspiring personal stories of resilience, recovery, and hope.  Speakers from our Peer Talk program share their experiences with mood disorders and with supporting loved ones who have mental health challenges.

Speakers Biography:

  • Ruston has been a Peer Support worker at Hope + Me in Toronto for the past five years. He has lived experience with mental health, addictions, and homelessness. He enjoys time with his family in Port Dover and loves playing drums, listening to music, and watching Coronation Street.  Ruston speaks often on the important topics of seeking help for mental health issues as well as mindfulness and self-compassion.

  • Justin is a recent graduate in Psychology at the University of Guelph. He is passionate about breaking down stigma towards mental health as a whole and in the areas most relevant to his own life. Justin’s goal is to continue advancing this conversation in this area through Peer Talk and to speak to his lived experience. Justin is a LGBTQ+, disability, relationships, and BDD advocate.

  • Bartholomew (Bart) is a Motivational Speaker, Advanced Level WRAP™ Facilitator, Management Consultant, Wellness Educator, and Life Coach with over 30 years of leadership experience.  Bart studied Human Resources Management at Ryerson University and has a Master of Education degree in Adult Learning from Yorkville University.  He holds certificates in Peer Support, coaching and mentoring, and leadership. Bart is passionate about mental health and wellness. By being open about his personal journey, Bart hopes to inspire those suffering in silence—so they can break free from self-stigma to recover and find total wellness.

  • Christine has chosen a career of service to people for over 30 years and has contributed to supporting individuals and families across the lifespan.  She has a Bachelor of Arts from University of Western Ontario and a certificate in Change Leadership from eCornell University.  Christine is a leader in the non-profit sector focused on recreation, community development, early years, health promotion and mental health and addictions.  She is passionate about lifelong learning and bringing one’s whole self into the work that she does.

  • Karie has been a member of Hope + Me's Peer Talk since its inception and is committed to fostering the conversation about mental health.  Karie faced challenges with depression and anxiety for 20 years and has actively sought professional and community support to manage her mood disorders.  She seeks opportunities to share and listen with friends, family, and coworkers about the journey and strategies for healthy living.
