Join us Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025 at 7pm ET for Supporting a Loved One Diagnosed With OCD with Jonathan Hershfield LCMFT
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a common and often debilitating psychiatric condition characterized by unwanted intrusive thoughts and repeated or excessive behaviors aimed at relieving related distress. While evidence-based interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy can be effective in treating the disorder, many people go several years between the onset of symptoms and getting the right help. Navigating the family system when a loved one has OCD can be challenging because compassion towards the sufferer often looks like reducing accommodations and reassurance, hardly an instinct. This presentation will offer an overview of OCD and its treatment with special attention to the pivotal role family members and others can play in supporting someone with the condition, whether child, teen, or adult. Attendees will also identify tips and tools for navigating intense emotions that can arise when a loved one has OCD, including when other conditions are co-occurring.
