Description: Exposure to trauma can result in significant difficulties including our emotional, cognitive and physiological responses. This workshop will help participants to understand the development and maintenance of PTSD and how trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy including prolonged exposure and cognitive restructuring can address these underlying processes and help to improve clients' PTSD symptoms and functioning.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the physiological, emotional and cognitive components of the trauma response and how they contribute to the development and maintenance of trauma symptoms.
Understand the rationale for and mechanisms underlying exposure-based therapy in treating PTSD symptoms.
To apply CBT skills to help clients to challenge unhelpful thinking styles, particularly with common themes after trauma including loss of control, powerlessness, and helplessness.
