Course Description:
We will begin this three-hour workshop exploring the Adverse Childhood Experiences study, using Sexual and Gender-Based Violence as an example of trauma. We will delve into the impacts of trauma on neurobiology, and discuss how science helps us understand symptoms of trauma in new ways. We will then look at Trauma- and Violence-Informed Care as a universal precaution that helps us to meet the needs of patients and clients more effectively. Using the newest research in Resiliency, we will demonstrate specific client or patient skills building that can be nurtured through a Trauma- and Violence-Informed Practice. We end this workshop with practical information about local resources and referrals.
This course is distinct from but complementary to First Stage Trauma Treatment (FSTT).
