Description: Therapy too often expects children to engage in adult conversation or ignores children because they are developmentally incapable of adult conversation. But what exactly do you do with children? Like many clinicians, when I stepped out of graduate school, I felt under-trained in working with children.
This interactive, online training will give clinicians hands-on tools for working with children. Through simple play activities and discovery, attendees will learn to use toys and activities as conversational tools to not only increase client engagement, but to design the ideal future and move towards it. Attendees will leave with step-by-step tools and strategies for effective therapeutic outcomes with children and families, understand key child development factors, and learn strategies for engaging parents. Specific case examples of childhood anxiety, disobedience, aggressive behavior, school problems, and family disruption will be addressed.
Learning objectives:
- Participant will be able to identify and will practice 5 basic communication skills.
- Participants will understand key child development factors.
- Participants will practice simple therapeutic play activities.
- Participants will acquire strategies for engaging parents.
Registration fees: General: $250 | Student: $225
