Event date: -
Event type: Single day (a day or less)
This free webinar is hosted by the University of Alberta.
COVID-19 has undeniably affected and inconvenienced us all. But shutdown measures to prevent the spread of the virus have deepened the struggle for people who live with addiction and mental illness.
Since the pandemic, we’ve seen a surge in alcohol consumption in the general population, reduced access to addiction support programs, increased reports of overdoses in homeless shelters and pressure on mental health supports. Hear from UAlberta School of Public Health experts Elaine Hyshka ('07 BA, '16 PhD) and Cam Wild ('84 BA(Hons), '88 MA, '93 PhD) as they discuss the fault lines that the coronavirus pandemic has exposed in supports for addiction and mental health. Explore what it would take to redesign systems to promote population mental health beyond the pandemic.
