A colleague pulled the following comparisons between ON and both Quebec and Alberta:

  • Heavy drinking and per-capita alcohol consumption is higher in both AB and QC
    • Self-reported heavy drinking among past month drinkers (2014, age 12+): ON 16.2%, AB 18.9%, QC 20.2%
  • The hospitalisation rate due to alcohol is about the same for ON and QC
  • The hospitalisation rate due to alcohol in AB is about 68% higher than in ON (i.e. 327 vs 195 per 100k individuals, age 10+, in 2015/16)
