Adversity in Childhood
Evidence shows that adversity in childhood (ACE's) are a critical factor in the development of psychiatric and physical illness, but that most doctors don't inquire about them. We have created a short video to help people respectfully engage in this process and establish a stronger alliance with their patients:
there is also an accompanying webpage with links, resources etc:

This is a great tool! Thanks for sharing!
It's just excellent! Thanks to you both. Can this video be used for teaching purposes? Do we need express written permission to embed it in a training program? Thanks for letting us know.
no permission required.
you can go ahead and use it, disseminate it wherever you can- we are aiming for broad coverage here
thanks for your positive feedback, jh
Will definitely use it - thinking of two courses where it will inform a serious gap in learning/understanding. Thank you for making this content so accessible and clear
Knowledge about the ACE study has been around for a long time, but has been slow to permeate medical culture. Your great video does a good job in introducing awareness of the implications of childhood adversity, in a way that might help lead to more open-ness to receiving and applying this knowledge. Even though ACEs are not actionable in and of themselves, knowing that one has ACEs can be an incitement to make certain lifestyle decisions. As well - as you mention - knowledge of ACEs can leave us and our care providers better able to predict how we will respond to challenges - like hospitalization, pregnancy, loss, etc. Keep up the great work!
Great video! shared!
