Early intervention program for mood and anxiety disorders in London Ont. showing signs of success
We've heard about how early intervention programs for psychosis can lead to better outcomes for clients, but what about early intervention for those experiencing a first episode of a mood or anxiety disorder?
A group of researchers from Western University, IC/ES, and Lawson Health Research Institute have investigated the potential impact of London Ontario's First Episode Mood and Anxiety Program (FEMAP), a outpatient program that provides client-centred care for youth aged 16 to 25 who are experiencing mood or anxiety symptoms. They found that those treated through FEMAP had improved symptoms and higher quality of life. When compared to clients treated elsewhere in the region (but not through FEMAP), FEMAP clients had more rapid access to care and lower rates of emergency department visits.
Many evidences have indicated the benefits of fast and early interventions. Now we have an organization based on this evidence for treatment! Hope it's widely accessible.
