How 'Dry January' is the secret to better sleep, saving money and losing weight
Just in time for the new year! New research shows that taking part in Dry January (where you don't drink alcohol in January) sees people regaining control of their drinking, having more energy, better skin and losing weight. They also report drinking less months later.
Dr Richard Piper, CEO of Alcohol Change UK, said: "Many of us know about the health risks of alcohol -- seven forms of cancer, liver disease, mental health problems -- but we are often unaware that drinking less has more immediate benefits too. Sleeping better, feeling more energetic, saving money, better skin, losing weight... The list goes on. Dry January helps millions to experience those benefits and to make a longer-lasting change to drink more healthily."
This study was in the UK, where there's even an app for Dry January (iTunes). Has anyone heard of this in Canada?
This practice should be applied every few months! Perhaps once a quarter...
I wonder if they observed effects on alcohol-related harms such as impaired driving, motor accidents, crime or violence.
In Canada, Dry Feb is a fundraiser that challenges you to go alcohol-free for a month to support the Canadian Cancer Society. It helps you get healthy and clear your head while also raising funds for an important cause. Dryfeb.ca
