We are currently building out our 2020/2021 Training Calendar and we would love to hear from you. Thanks to our focus groups and advisory committee we have a fantastic starting point for new training opportunities to include in our up-and-coming calendar and now, we would like to continue to grow our offerings for you with training in areas that would best support your professional needs.

MPA project, TECC-Y, helps youth through web-based platform
CAMH has teamed up with Trillium Health Partners and SickKids to launch a two-year pilot project, funded by the Medical Psychiatry Alliance (MPA), aiming to help youth with first-episode psychosis (FEP). The Technology-Enabled Collaborative Care for Youth (TECC-Y) project, brings together an interprofessional team —a psychiatrist, an occupational therapist, a dietician, and social worker—to provide holistic care to youth ages 16 to 29 with FEP, through a web-based platform.

All evidence is not created equal: New study on alcohol during pregnancy
A new study with a press release that claims "No safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy, suggest researchers" was published on Friday.
In this study, they did brain scans of "21 healthy teenage subjects and 19 subjects with prenatal alcohol exposure" (PAE). They found that people with PAE had different brain activation to touch and had reduced scores for cognitive measures. Ok, fine.

Kratom and neonatal abstinence syndrome.
Published in Pediatrics and Child Health , a Canadian Pediatrics Journal is this case report of a newborn requiring 2 months of morphine withdrawal. I have not heard of kratom from the tropical Mitragena speciosa tree, mitragynine the likely active ingredient. In low doseage it produces a stimulant effect and at higher doses sedation and nausea. Respiratory depression is not a feature.
It is a regulated Herbal Product in the USA, but illegal to sell in Canada. There is easy internet availability however.
