The game Fortnite is a free game that can be played on mobile devices. Because of these savvy choices, more and more women are playing this game, helping to propel is to possibly generate 3.5 billion dollars in revenue. They also offer more representation for women, which is something different as well. How 'Fortnite' unlocked the most active gamers on mobile It's interesting how they have begun to cater to women, and that choice is really paying off for them.

Re: How mental illness is discussed on the internet

There are so many horrible things and misinformation on the internet regarding mental health and addictions. In a sea of confusion, it's hard to find the truth. I think it's critical for those of us working in this field to stop using jargon and psychobabble to reach the general population. People are looking for credible information that they can understand and share on social media. I saw a "problem solving" cartoon the other day that showed someone who hung himself and the other person...

Thx for the link to JGI's latest issue! The first journal title caught my eye right away - What Characterizes Excessive Online Trading? I particularly liked how they explored the mutual similarities between gambling behaviours and trading behaviours. In my opinion, I think the sample size was much to low to really encapsulate the scope of trading. For example, I think stricter measures on participants may have helped to pull apart problem trading versus regular trading - novel traders,...

Re: Addicted to Fortnite? Montreal law firm says video game company should pay up

I agree that transparency around risks from developers would be beneficial for consumers. Something like pop-up messages (similar to those in casinos) after playing for extended periods of time might be helpful and easy to implement. I think open conversations and advocacy with developers may lead to changes without regulation in any given jurisdiction (especially with video games being a global market). An example of where developers have started taking a step to help inform consumers in a...

Gambling, meme stocks and social media - A convergence?

Registered Member ·
Recently there's been some interesting news around "meme stocks" like GameStop and others, which to some extent could be considered closer to gambling rather than investing. This article has a decent breakdown of the subject, although it's probably a bigger topic than a single article can cover. What's interesting is that this type of story is around a Gaming company and is fueled by social media (reddit, and in particular /r/wallstreetbets - which by its name, doesn't hide the...

As per this article Draft Kings is planning on coming to Ontario. Will be able to capture any share given the prevalence of our grey market gaming which has always been here. Thoughts on whether Ontario is going to even grant them a license?
