Pandemic lockdowns and restrictions have impacted the provision of treatment for people with gambling problems. Our traditional notions of that treatment needs to be offered in face-to-face contact have been challenged. Remote offerings seem effective, and to some clients, even preferable. In the gambling area, we are fortunate that there is an existing evidence-base for the efficacy of telephone and online interventions. This presentation will review the state of the field, and provide helpful guidance to clinicians.

Additionally, it explores the financial risks and implications of gambling, dispels myths about money/credit and gambling, explores the concepts of needs vs. wants as well as odds and probability and provides resources and money saving strategies. The webinar's content is designed for parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, college/university students and adults involved in young people’s lives.

The Youth Gambling Awareness Program recently completed an informative article that outlines the basics of youth brain development and how this development impacts risk taking behaviors. This information is useful for parents and professionals who work with youth!

Through discussing these topics attendees will learn and talk about how stigma impacts the lives of people with gambling problems and creates a reluctance to seek help, and methods to reduce the stigma and stereotypes associated with mental health problems.

A report titled Gambling and Gaming During COVID-19: Prevalence, Implications and Strategies to Stay Safe provides an overview of the impacts of COVID-19 on the gambling and video gaming sectors.

The report shows more individuals are participating in online gambling despite the closure of physical gambling spaces. It also shows an increase in the amount of time spent and the number of people playing video games.
