The Gambling, Gaming & Technology Use Community of Interest brings together addiction and mental health service providers, researchers and subject matter experts in the fields of gambling, technology/Internet use and video gaming to collaborate and share knowledge on emerging trends and clinical best practices.

This podcast includes interviews with a Privacy Law professor Gaia Bernstein and Dr. Anna Lembke, a psychiatry professor. Dr. Anna Lembke is featured in the first half of the podcast (23:30 minute mark) with interview with Gaia Bernstein following (24 minute to 45 minute mark).

Dr. Anna Lembke provides a great overview of the:

• dopamine effect

• ‘false-self’ - where people can begin to feel they only really exist online with the real world being a place where they feel impoverished, and

• strategies to reset a healthy dopamine reward pathway.

Gaia Berstein discusses:

• tech industry’s strategies to keep people online longer

• how the shift of tech use responsibility should move from the individual to the tech industry

• actions happening at the national/international level (Quebec and the Seattle school board), and

• actions that can be done at the community level.
