The Gambling, Gaming & Technology Use Community of Interest brings together addiction and mental health service providers, researchers and subject matter experts in the fields of gambling, technology/Internet use and video gaming to collaborate and share knowledge on emerging trends and clinical best practices.

  • Healthy Social Media Use:
    • Allows youth who are lonely, lack offline support, belong to a marginalized group, are experiencing stress & have medical conditions to receive support from others who share similar interests, hobbies or experiences.
    • Can help teens express themselves, connect with others at any distance, talk about important topics such as mental health, see how others cope with day to day stress and ask for help
  • Unhealthy Social Media Use:
    • Distract from life obligations
    • Unhealthy sleep
    • Information that is not correct
    • Unrealistic body image
    • Contribute to bullying or too much personal information
    • Online predators/scammers
  • Tips for Parents:
    • Monitor what content is being viewed
    • Set time limits & rules
    • Be a role model with your own social media use
    • Set privacy settings
    • Talk with teens regularly about social media
    • Talk about cyber bullying
    • encourage in person friendship interactions
