COVID-19 pandemic

The Ontario Ministry of Health has recently developed a COVID-19 guidance document for community-based mental health and addiction residential settings. Please see the English version attached. I have not located a French version yet. This document has not been posted on the Ministry of Health website, but it will reportedly be soon.

In order to continue to meet the needs of children, youth and families during COVID-19 many service-providing agencies are quickly moving to virtual care. Some platforms that service providers are using include: ThinkResearch , oncallhealth.ca and Zoom for Healthcare. It looks like all of these platforms are HIPPA and PIPEDA/PHIPA compliant.

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)’s BounceBack program is a key component of the government's expansion of online and virtual mental health supports to help Ontarians navigating the difficult realities in the wake of COVID-19.

BounceBack's expanded services are available now, free of charge, to help people experiencing mild to moderate anxiety, stress and other mental health challenges associated with the pandemic.

The global COVID-19 pandemic is highlighting pre-existing systemic inequities. The importance of partnerships in crisis is front and center as we confront the global COVID-19 pandemic. Community-Campus Partnerships for Health and the Center for Health Equity Research at the University of North Carolina have partnered to launch the webinar series, Communities in Partnership: Ensuring Equity in the Time of COVID19.

I had a story/blog published on the Mighty yesterday, I speak reflectively through an experiential lens to the covid crisis on how it affects individuals living in the North who struggle with poverty, mental illness and food insecurity. FYI there is a small trigger warning on it. Very real talk about the crisis some individuals like myself are facing.

The Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) at the University of Toronto is hosting a webinar, COVID-19 and Health Equity for Marginalized Populations, on Thursday, April 9.
