North American Refugee Health Conference Events

The North American Refugee Health Conference (NARHC) is the largest refugee health conference of its kind globally, and offers access to recent research, best practices in refugee health, and a great opportunity for networking. The 2019 conference will be held in Toronto from June 14-16, organized by the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine.

This year’s conference will focus on the Rohingya crisis, Trauma and Resiliency.

Refugees are vulnerable to mental health problems, though not all refugees experience them.  The rates of mental health problems and illnesses vary considerably between and within different groups.  These variations reflect differences in exposure to, and effects of, risk factors on specific refugee populations and groups within these populations.

I work at Lifeline Syria, an organization that processes applications for Syrian refugees to come to Canada. 

Please feel free to share any mental health resources or services that are available to Syrian newcomers in Toronto. As you can imagine, the mental health needs of Syrian newcomers are high, as they are coming from conflict zones.

FREE Refugee Mental Health Online Course - Registration Now Open Forum topic

The Refugee Mental Health course is accepting registrations for the 2014-15 year. Developed by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, this 4-week, online course is designed to help build service providers’ knowledge and skills regarding refugee mental health issues.

 

Course topics include mental health problems affecting refugees; the unique needs of refugee women, children, seniors and victims of torture; treatment issues and considerations; and refugee mental health promotion. There is a course each designed for these groups of professionals:
