Gambling, Gaming & Technology Use Community of Interest

The Gambling, Gaming & Technology Use Community of Interest brings together addiction and mental health service providers, researchers and subject matter experts in the fields of gambling, technology/Internet use and video gaming to collaborate and share knowledge on emerging trends and clinical best practices.

As a parent I am very concerned for the upcoming generation with gaming/technology use. I find that it is very addicting, my children have a ipad however we use it when we are camping and it is raining or in the vehicles. I do notice a reaction from my children when the ipad is taken away.

I feel due to the ever-changing world we are in and how much technology is a part of our world also has a huge impact, not necessarily that technology is bad just that we as parents and adults need to be able to teach our children healthy boundaries with our technology, games and screens. How do we do this though if we ourselves do not have healthy boundaries with technology or video games?

Please view this article that talks about screen use with teens.

I completely agree with you both. It truly does emphasize the importance of asking questions and following up on that. I think a lot of parents are taking more time to ask about why their children are using technology to the point where it becomes a problem, but they do not always follow up and help solve those concerns. I believe part of this is educational. Parents need more education around how to ask these questions and how to help problem solve.
