The current overdose crisis and the new reality of cannabis legalization are underpinning a drive to re-examine the range of practices around substance use and their implications for YMHSU services. Given the acute extent of the overdose crisis, some stakeholders, including people with lived and living experience, have highlighted the critical need to increase community capacity to provide compassionate, non-judgemental harm reduction services.

Course Description

We are welcoming all youth (ages 14 to 27) to take advantage of this FREE 8-week Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Program.

This is a Canadian Red Cross-sponsored initiative to help youth learn one of the best techniques to reduce stress and anxiety and gain the resilience to deal with any of the stressors of daily life.

The 8-week MBSR program will involve 1.5 hours of weekly lecture and meditation practice in a virtual setting.

I wanted to let you know about this EENet Research Snapshot related to drinking and COVID-19.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused significant social changes that have never been seen before. These changes have included physical distancing, stay-at-home measures and closing schools to reduce the risk of transmitting the virus, as well as high unemployment and numerous deaths.

In this panel discussion webinar, experts will provide a local and provincial perspective on the response to substance use and mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. They will explore the implications of the pandemic response on substance use and mental health, as well as the response measures that were taken, lessons learned and recommendations as pandemic restrictions across Canada begin to lift.

The MTER (Mindfulness Training for Emotional Resilience ) program was originally developed for the purpose of providing accessible mindfulness-based mental health training for front-line clinicians working in community agencies with marginalized populations.

Bell Let’s Talk provided the original grant for its development to create user-friendly resources for clients and clinical tools for mental health practitioners.

This free webinar will feature a 60 minute panel of experts discussing digital health resources for supporting women with addictions—both what is currently available and what is still needed—as well as the importance of solutions that are both gender- and trauma-informed. The presentation will be followed by a 30 minute Q&A session with members of the audience.
