The Canadian Coalition for Seniors Mental Health (CCSMH) has been funded through the Substance Use and Addictions Program (SUAP) of Health Canada to create a set of four guidelines on the prevention, assessment, and management of substance use disorders among older adults for alcohol, benzodiazepine receptor agonists (BZRAs), cannabis, and opioids.
This presentation will provide useful guidance for clinicians on preventing the development of BZRA use disorder and optimally assessing and treating older individuals who have developed such a disorder.
Provide your feedback on Health Quality Ontario's draft quality standard on alcohol use and alcohol use disorder.
The draft quality standard outlines quality care for people aged 15 and older and is based on the best evidence, along with input from clinicians, patients and caregivers.
Accompanying the draft standard is a patient guide to help people ask questions and have informed discussions with their health care providers.

Published in Pediatrics and Child Health , a Canadian Pediatrics Journal is this case report of a newborn requiring 2 months of morphine withdrawal. I have not heard of kratom from the tropical Mitragena speciosa tree, mitragynine the likely active ingredient. In low doseage it produces a stimulant effect and at higher doses sedation and nausea. Respiratory depression is not a feature.
It is a regulated Herbal Product in the USA, but illegal to sell in Canada. There is easy internet availability however.
