The Art of Life Community Health Centre is happy to announce that the new cycle of the Meditative Art Program for Expecting Mothers will be launching in July 2021!

Community members and future mothers, as well as those women who are actively trying to get pregnant or have recently given birth, are invited to attend a FREE IN-PERSON Introductory Session on Tuesday, July 20th, 2021, at 6:30 pm at the Art of Life Community Health Centre (885 Don Mills Road, UNIT 224, North York, M3C 1V9).

Postpartum mental illness is a common problem that affects a mother’s ability to function, her interactions with her baby, and the well-being of families. Ontario researchers calculated the rate of postpartum mental health visits to primary care doctors and psychiatrists during the first nine months of the COVID-19 pandemic and compared these against expected rates based on patterns before the pandemic.

This workshop provides a solid foundation for evidence-based, person-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally safe care for pregnant and postnatal people who use substances as well as best practices related to the care of their newborns. Link for more information and to register.

You're invited to the virtual forum on supporting pregnant/parenting people who use drugs when child welfare involvement and the COVID-19 pandemic collide on Friday, August 14, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists in the United Kingdom has put together  specific considerations you need to make when working with more vulnerable populations, such as older people, people who use drugs, with alcohol dependence, with intellectual disabilities, and pregnant women and those in the perinatal period.  Suggestions are included for community services, acute hospital services, inpatient services, children services, persons with lived experience, and pharmacological considerations.

This conference brings together clinicians, students, community members, policy makers, and researchers, for discussions on racialized maternal health. The theme of this year's conference is: Innovations in the BIPOC Space. Through talks, panel discussions, and poster presentations, this conference aims to educate, inspire dialogue, and create opportunities for networking and change within the Canadian maternal health system. Tickets to this conference will be made available starting: February 8th, 2020.

This webinar will share a new toolkit, Mothering and Opioids: Addressing Stigma and Acting Collaboratively, developed by the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health.
