Lunch & Learn: Creating safe virtual spaces for marginalized older adults Events
The COVID-19 pandemic response has increased the risk of social isolation for many people. Restrictions on in-person gatherings, the introduction of social “bubbles,” closures of public and commercial gathering-spaces, and the suspension of many community programs have made it hard for people to find connection and community. This is especially for those who live alone or don’t have close friends or family nearby.
Preventing and recognizing burnout and compassion fatigue while working with older adults Forum topic

Suggestions are included for community services, acute hospital services, inpatient services, children services, persons with lived experience, and pharmacological considerations.

Webinar: Older Adults and Substance Use in the Time of COVID-19 Events
This free webinar is hosted by the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba.
The pandemic is a difficult time for people of all ages and health conditions. For older adults, the pandemic poses additional challenges as disrupted support systems and potential increased risks of serious complications from COVID-19 can lead to higher levels of stress or anxiety, and increase their vulnerability to various health problems, including addictions.

Webinar: COVID-19 Infection in Persons Living With Dementia Events
The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected older persons with comorbidities, with a high fatality rate in this group.
In this webinar, we will review the basics of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19); what is known so far about its effects on the body and on the brain; and on outcomes when infection occurs in persons living with dementia. We will discuss the ethics of allocating scarce medical resources during a pandemic, and the effects it may have on access to care for persons with dementia.
Webinar: Working with newcomer seniors and their mental health issues Events
Evidence shows that mental health problems and illnesses can be a serious issue for older immigrants within their first few years of arrival to Canada.
