This three-part winter cannabis and mental health webinar series, co-hosted by the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction, will focus on emerging research about the impact of legalization for a range of communities across Canada.

See research teams from across Canada share their findings and discuss policy implications for Indigenous communities, people experiencing homelessness, older adults, 2SLGBTQ+ people, youth, and other priority populations.

Domestic homicides are an extreme form of violence against women and children across the commonwealth. Many of these deaths appear predictable and preventable with hindsight. Some of this hindsight has come from various death review processes across Canada, the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand that have developed in the past decade. These reviews by interdisciplinary committees shed light on what transpired and how to prevent the same outcome in similar circumstances in the future.

Older women often describe feeling invisible within services, systems, and communities.   After experiencing multiple forms of violence, often throughout generations and by multiple perpetrators, their needs for service and support are unique and complex.

Half of Canadians will have a hearing loss by 75 years of age. Hearing loss increases the risk of cognitive decline and dementia. Those with combined hearing loss and cognitive impairment are at increased risk for declines in everyday functioning and entry into long-term care. Importantly, hearing loss is the largest potentially modifiable risk factor for dementia. This presentation will describe the connections between hearing loss and cognitive decline, with an emphasis on what could be done to help reduce the risk of dementia and optimize everyday functioning and care.
