The Mental Health Commission of Canada defines peer support workers as those who provide “emotional and social support provided to others who share a common experience (Mental Health Commission of Canada, 2022).” Evidence shows that the integration of peer support workers into mental health services has many benefits, but developing these programs has several challenges. Some challenges include being able to maintain professional boundaries, difficulties with power dynamics among staff, job-related stress, and role clarity.

In this webinar we invite Bonnie Lipton-Bos from CMHA National to talk to us about the Campus Peer Support pilot project. This national project works closely with post-secondary institutions to train and empower students with lived and living experience of mental health or substance use health to support their fellow students, in partnership with local CMHA offices. She will be joined by two post-secondary sites who will talk about their experience with the project.

Harm Reduction Hangouts: Final Consultation Circle Events

The Harm Reduction Hangouts project (HRH) is a peer support-based harm reduction drop-in series, by and for 2SQTBIPOC youth. As we enter our last month of programming, the team is hosting final consultation circles for 2SQTBIPOC youth 16-21 to share their experiences with HRH drop-ins or, if they haven’t attended, why not/what they would have wanted.

Consultations are set for Wednesday, August 17 from 6-8pm (virtual via Zoom though possibly hybrid based on demand).
