The Mental Health and Addictions Centre of Excellence (MHA CoE) is recruiting members for two of their provincial advisory tables. Please read below for more details on each opportunity and how to express your interest.  

1. Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Provincial Advisory Table 

The Schizophrenia Society of York University (SSY) is the first and only schizophrenia awareness club organization at York University that raises awareness and humanizes individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. We provide a voice for people with schizophrenia and other mental illnesses, and create an atmosphere of de-stigmatization at York University.

Join us for two virtual workshops where we explore how caregivers can support their family members who are hearing voices due to psychosis. These online, 2-hour interactive sessions will help caregivers gain a deeper understanding into the context of hearing voices others can’t, contributing factors that help or harm a voice hearer’s experience of their voices, and how to use a CBT-p informed approach to communicate and support someone in their voice hearing.

The Mental Health Commission of Canada, in collaboration with Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, is pleased to announce the four sites that have joined a national demonstration project dedicated to improving care and treatment for schizophrenia.

Over 18 months, the following participating sites will receive tools, education, and training to implement Ontario Health’s Schizophrenia Quality Standards:

One in five Canadians experiences a mental health problem in a given year.  This five-module, self-directed online course explores basic concepts of mental health and mental illness.  We look at the prevalence of mental health problems in Canada, the risk and protective factors that influence mental health, and the links between mental health and the social determinants of health.  We explore the importance of creating a safe space for clients and developing a positive therapeutic relationship.  We also describe the various treatments for mental health challenges-includi
