CYBD’s World Bipolar Day Public Education Event 2025 Events

The Centre for Youth Bipolar Disorder (CYBD) invites you to its annual public education event hosted on March 27th, 2025! This event is open to anyone with an interest in learning more about youth bipolar disorder. A youth patient will share their lived experience, attendees will hear from Hope + Me, and current research will be presented. This year, CYBD is challenging its presenters to address two themes related to youth bipolar disorder, Patient and Family Engagement in Bipolar Disorder Research: Lessons from the Past and Building Momentum for the Future.

- What is bipolar disorder?
- What does bipolar disorder look like?
- How can you find a balance and get the support you need?

After the workshop you will receive a summary of the presentation in multiple languages, including community-based resources.

Webinar: Family history and genetics in youth bipolar disorder Events

About this webinar

Bipolar disorder is a highly heritable mental illness. Similar to other complex conditions, it is driven by multiple genes. This webinar will look at the genetics of youth bipolar disorder, both at the family level and at the DNA level. The single most significant risk factor for the development of bipolar disorder is having a family history of the disorder. This webinar will also discuss the impact of parental mental health on children’s mental health, as well as family therapy options and their treatment targets.

The timely recognition and treatment of early-onset bipolar disorder is critical given the potential preventive effects of early intervention, which can reduce adverse outcomes, including chronic symptoms, substance use disorders, and suicidality. Guidelines for the treatment of early-onset bipolar disorder recognize both pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy as important components of optimal treatment.
